近畿大学原子炉（UTR－KINKl）は、大学の教育・訓練および研究用に特に設計された極低出力（１W）の 軽水減速、黒鉛反射、非均質型熱中性子炉です。残留ガンマ線が極めて少ないため炉心内での作業が可能なことが大きな特徴のひとつとなっています。

UTR-KINKI is a light-water moderated, graphite reflected, heterogeneous enriched uranium thermal reactor, of which thermal power is 1W. One of the important features of UTR-KINKI is the low residual gammaactivity in the core.

燃料要素は平板状のウラン・アルミ合金で、6体ずつに分けて炉心タンクに入れられます。炉心タンクは黒鉛の反射体で囲まれています。また、計測制御は5本の中性子検出器と4本の制御棒によって行われています。

Twelve flat-type uranium-aluminum fuel elements are inserted in the core tanks. The graphite reflectors surround the core tanks. Five neutron detectors and four control rods are equipped for controlling the reactor power.

炉室に接した制御室に原子炉の運転・制御用のコンソールがあります。起動、停止、出力調整などの操作が容易で、学生の運転訓練にも適するよう設計されています。

The reactor control console is installed at the control room next to the core room. It is well-designed for the educational training of the reactor operation.

原子炉は生体遮蔽タンクで囲まれており、原子炉運転中でも炉室に立ち入ることが可能です。放射線安全管理をより確実なものとするために炉室内の放射線モニタリングを行います。

It is possible to access to the core room during the reactor operation due to the biological shield of tank. Radiation monitoring is carried out to make sure of safety in the core room.
