Summary:The inventory cycle is well-known to be closely related to short-term economic fluctuations. This paper analyzes the inventory cycle from 2013 to 2023 during the 16th business cycle, focusing on both the national and Kansai regional economies. By utilizing inventory rates and inventory cycle charts, the study examines trends and differences in inventory cycles between these regions, yielding the following insights. First, there were no significant differences between national and Kansai trends in inventory indices or shipment-inventory balances. However, when reviewing the inventory cycle chart, specific regional trends emerged. In the first half of the period, from 2015 to 2019, Kansai exhibited an inverse inventory cycle compared to the national level, with larger volatility in its inventory index. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, similar inventory cycles have been observed in both the national and Kansai economies, with movements returning to typical inventory adjustment phases.
