    Summary:Terahertz (THz) absorption spectra of nylon-6 were measured from -90 to 230 ℃ in the frequency range from 1 to 11 THz. By comparing the results of THz spectroscopy with those of X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements, thermogravimetry (TG), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), it was closely examined whether THz spectroscopy is effective for the analysis of physical states of polymer materials, such as glass transition, water absorption, and experience of annealing. Anomalous frequency shift was found at the glass transition temperature (T_g〜54℃) for the absorption band of a crystal at 〜8.7 THz, indicating that the skeletal vibrational mode along the molecular chain was relaxed at T_g. The spectral intensity between 3 and 11 THz was found to increase with water absorption. The THz spectrum of absorbed water was found to resemble that of bulk water, even though the absorbed water never freezes even at -89℃. For a nylon-6 film (a crystal) annealed at T_<ann> &ge; 80℃, the spectral intensity above 9 THz was found to increase at 〜T_<ann>, which was explained as the melting of small crystals formed by the recrystallization during the annealing.
