The Aquaculture Research Institute, Kindai University has produced many new species of fish. Laboratories across Japan stay connected so that they may constantly share their latest findings.
The Aquaculture Research Institute, Kindai University runs three fishery science research sites that lead the way in developing culturing technologies - the 'Shirahama Station, Aquaculture Research Institute', the 'Susami Branch, Shirahama Station, Aquaculture Research Institute', and the 'Oshima Station, Aquaculture Research Institute' - as well as three world-class research centers for fish culturing and seedling production - the 'Uragami Station, Aquaculture Research Institute', the 'Shingu Station, Aquaculture Research Institute', and the 'Toyama Station, Aquaculture Research Institute'.
The Fishery Culturing Seedling Center is working to commercialize the culturing technologies developed at the Aquaculture Research Institute, and to produce good seedlings that can help both Japanese fisheries and food supplies. This responds to current needs for increased production of fishery resources and the development of a next-generation fisheries industry.
We also work to produce good seedlings using artificial incubation technologies supplied by Kindai University, eggs obtained from parent fish cultivated in its laboratories, essential sea surfaces, facilities, and natural parent fish supplied by the Shirahama branch of the Southern Wakayama Fisheries Union. In addition to supplying the seedlings we produce for other fisheries throughout Western Japan, we also release seedlings into nearby seas to help increase resources for other coastal fisheries.
In 1989, we opened sites in Susami, Oshima, and Uragami, where the results of our research have been applied to commercial activity and have contributed greatly to the development of the fisheries industry.
