Under the theme of utilizing energy from nuclear reactions, we have taken up the challenge of elucidating the dynamics of nuclear reactions. We are engaged in wide-ranging research on nuclear fusion and fission, transmutation, reprocessing, and synthesis of super-heavy elements.

We apply information technology to medical care safely and without imposing a burden on doctors or patients. To this end, we conduct research on ubiquitous computing, advanced image and video processing, and user-friendly interface technologies.

Integrated System Design, Embedded Systems

VLSI is a key technology to design integrated systems. In designing integrated systems, we should optimize many metrics such as low power, low energy, high robustness and high performance. This laboratory conducts research concerning integrated system design methodology and design itself.

We are actively conducting research related to laser and electrical energy control, for example, development of new lasers, new functional materials by laser treatment, laser peening, and development of fast high-voltage switch using power semiconductors.

Separation Chemistry, Radiation Chemistry

We are working to develop new separation technologies and new functional materials using radiation in order to make effective use of radioactive substances not only in atomic energy applications, but also with the aim of expanding into other areas such as healthcare.

We develop new materials to create new electronic components and also develop technologies to fabricate them easily. We also develop new analytical techniques using these new materials, such as atmospheric analysis and observation of catalyst reactions.

We make practical application of remote sensing technologies that measure the nature of objects from a distance using specific properties such as electromagnetic emissions. We also develop equipment and perform observations and analyses on various subjects, such as phenomena that cause disasters to happen, the Earth’s environment, etc.

We are doing research using techniques that fuse information and knowledge processing technologies with system technologies such as simulation and optimization techniques. Our goal is to enable computers to replace humans for intellectual tasks such as identifying problems and formulating solutions to them.

This lab does research on the fundamentals and potential applications of light, revolving not only around optical communications, but also the development of new lasers that use optical fibers. We also promote development of new optical technologies and enjoy discovering previously unknown phenomena involving light.

Computer Aided Engineering (CAE), a simulation-based design technology, has seen rapid adoption in electrical equipment design in recent years. By integrating CAE with Artificial Intelligence (AI), we aim to realize the fully automated design of electrical devices.

Plasma is variously employed in, for example, plasma TVs and welding, and it has become an absolutely essential industrial technology. We are making practical application of this plasma and conducting research to find uses for it in a variety of other fields.
